“I was so lucky to have taken Nicole’s advice,” she said of the vet tech at Matawan Animal Hospital who told her about Marty’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary’s Senior Pet Assistance Program. “This assistance means so much.”
The purpose of the program, launched in September by the Allentown-based nonprofit, is to provide financial assistance to qualified senior citizens, “making it possible to keep a senior dog in the home when financial challenges may otherwise make this too difficult,” according to the organization.
They say every dog has its day. But for older dogs in their twilight years, times can be ruff…err, rough. Many animal shelters care for aging dogs facing adoption challenges due to health issues; or the simple fact that people prefer to adopt a younger dog. That’s where Marty’s Place comes in; this Senior Dog Sanctuary in Upper Freehold welcomes aging canines with open arms.
This is Marty’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary, an Upper Freehold haven for a select group of dogs of a certain age who have lost their homes. Open since 2015, the facility currently houses 18 dogs. Staff call them “residents.”
Marty’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary® provides a safe, loving and protected environment for senior dogs that do not have homes.
